Artist Statement

I've always admired the directness and lack of pretension in the artwork of ancient and indigenous cultures. Animals are a common subject of their creations. Their depiction symbolizes a number of themes; as guaranteeing success in a hunt, as spiritual guides to the Afterlife and as deities to be revered. My artwork explores these interpretations while addressing contemporary concerns of ecological imbalance, extinction, and a world under constant surveillance. I think of many of my pieces as pages from an alien school-book about Earth. Music and film inspire much of my art. My imagination is also influenced by such suburban ephemera as photo albums, pet culture, television, souvenirs and kitsch objects.
